SPAN 343 - Culture and Politics in Spain from Civil War to Today This course presents an overview of the evolution of life in Spain since the Civil War, death of Franco, through the socialist period and Spain’s entry in the European Union until today. Art, music, literature and film will serve as the basis for lecture and discussions of some of Spain’s current challenges and achievements, namely, unemployment, immigration, language and identity, women’s rights, terrorism, the impact of the Euro on the economy and the relationship between Catalonia and the Spanish government today. Recommended for students who are planning to study abroad in Spain. This course satisfies the Area 2 requirement for the Spanish major. Prerequisite(s): SPAN 305 or consent of the instructor. SPAN 307 recommended. Alternate years. (4 Credits)
