ENVI 219 - Environmental Health and Development How do environmental decisions impact human health? This course uses a public health and critical social science lens to examine the health impacts of environmental decisions in local and global contexts. We will pay particular attention to environmental decision-making and environmental health in development efforts. The class will employ case studies to explore health implications of water management and treatment, population change, toxins and industrial disasters, energy resource development, indoor and outdoor air pollution, climate change, industrial agriculture and pesticide use, and environmental inequalities. Students will learn to apply basic public health principles, including epidemiology, dose response, disease burden, and risk assessment. Offered every year. (4 Credits)
