HIST 125 - Influential Indians: A Biographical Approach to American Indian History This course introduces students to American Indian history through the biographical studeis of famous (and not-so-famous) American Indians. From athletes to activists, warriors to writers, and political pundits to performers, American Indians were and are a driving force in shaping not only their worlds but the world around them. The historical and contemporary aspects of American Indians’ political sovereignty, cultural preservation, and economic development underscore their agency and highlight their resistance to federal Indian policy. Using a variety of primary and secondary sources written by and about American Indians, students will develop their critical reading skills while fostering their historical research and writing abilities.
