HIST 114 - History of Africa to 1800 A study of the history of Africa before 1800, this course covers the major themes relating to the development of African societies and cultures from the earliest times. Students will engage with themes of state-building, trade and religion as catalysts for change and learn how historians have reconstructed the history of early Africa. This course will provide students with knowledge of specific case studies from North, South, East, West, and Central Africa. Meets the pre-1800 requirement, and can count towards “Colonization and Empire,” or “Race and Indigeneity,” or “Africa & Atlantic World” fields. Every year. (4 Credits)
