ART 270 - Making Sacred: Religious Images and Spaces in Asia This course focuses on the visual culture that supported major religions and spiritual trends spanning India, China, and Japan. In the course of examining the formal development of devotional objects, images, and spaces associated with Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Shintoism, and even the religious rhetoric that informed twentieth-century militarism, we will discuss the multifaceted ways the sacred was visualized and how these manifestations exemplified systems of cultural exchange in Asia.
