RELI 120 - Hebrew Bible This course introduces students to biblical studies by examining selected texts of the Hebrew Bible. We will employ a variety of interpretive strategies in our analysis, including historical-critical and literary approaches that attempt to locate biblical texts in their historical, political, and social contexts. We will also explore contemporary modes of interpreting the Bible with special emphasis on feminist hermeneutics and African American biblical interpretation. In presentations, reflection papers, and close readings, students will learn to engage biblical literature in a critical and constructive fashion and to attend to the social, theological, and political implications of interpretation. Offered every year. (4 Credits)
