BIOL 484 - Sem in Evolutionary Physiology This seminar integrates physiological mechanisms, behavior, ecological processes, and evolutionary history to understand how and why animals work the way they do and why they are distributed the way they are. We will examine the diverse mechanisms by which animals exchange material and energy with their environments (e.g. thermal relations, gas exchange, water balance) and how they maintain homeostasis. Student presentations will focus on unique physiological systems (e.g. echolocation) and/or physiological adaptations to unique environments (e.g. the deep sea). Prerequisites: BIOL 170 (Biodiversity and Evolution), BIOL 205 (Cell Biology and Genetics II), and BIOL 180 (Ecology). Offered occasionally. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 170, 205 and 180. (4 Credits)
